Frequently Asked Questions
What grind should I use for espresso?
Fine — roughly table-salt texture. If your shot runs fast and thin, go finer; if it chokes, back off slightly. The ultra-dark profile is forgiving, so you'll find the sweet spot quickly. Or skip the guesswork and choose the Espresso Machine (Fine) grind at checkout.
Does Orient Espresso work in home espresso machines?
Yes — it was built for them. The low acidity and heavy body make it one of the easiest blends to dial in on a home machine, and it performs just as well in a stovetop moka pot.
Is Orient Espresso USDA Organic?
Yes. Orient Espresso is USDA Organic, certified through NFC, our accredited organic certifying agent.
Does it come whole bean or ground?
Both. Order it whole bean, or freshly ground to match your brewing method — espresso machine, stovetop, drip, or French press.
What does the black tea note mean in an espresso?
It's the aromatic character you notice first — a brisk, slightly floral quality (that's the jasmine) that lifts the cup before the brown sugar and chocolate arrive. It's unusual in a roast this dark, and it's what makes Orient recognizable.
When was my coffee roasted?
Every bag is stamped with its roast batch, so you know exactly when it was roasted. We roast in small batches, in-house, in Greenport.
About the Farm
About the Farm
This blend is rooted in three remarkable origins: smallholder farms in the Sidama region of Ethiopia produce both the washed and naturally processed beans, bringing floral brightness and fruity depth to the cup. From the lush, rainforest-covered highlands of Sumatra, farmers contribute rich, wet-hulled beans known for their bold, earthy character. Each coffee is cultivated using traditional methods by cooperatives committed to sustainability and quality. Together, these origins form a blend that reflects craftsmanship at the source—balanced, complex, and full of story.
Why 100% Arabica Matters
Why 100% Arabica Matters
Not all coffee beans are created equal. At Aldo’s, we roast 100% Arabica beans, the world’s most prized coffee variety, known for smoother flavor, better balance, and natural complexity. Arabica beans deliver rich notes of chocolate, caramel, and subtle sweetness without the harsh bitterness often found in mass-market coffee, which frequently blends in lower-grade beans to cut costs. By using only 100% Arabica and roasting in small batches, we ensure every cup tastes cleaner, richer, and more enjoyable—whether you drink it black or with milk.
Why Choose ORGANIC Beans?
Why Choose ORGANIC Beans?
At Aldo’s, every coffee we roast now carries the USDA Organic certification, guaranteeing that our beans are grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or toxic chemicals. We partner exclusively with small family farms that rely on natural cultivation methods, nutrient-rich soil, and time-honored growing practices that protect both the land and the people who farm it. These organic standards aren’t just better for the environment—they create cleaner, richer, and more complex flavors in every cup. By choosing Aldo’s, you’re supporting sustainable agriculture, fair labor, and a healthier planet, all while enjoying coffee crafted with uncompromising care.
