Frequently Asked Questions

Is Bali Blue Krishna the same as Bali Blue Moon coffee?

Yes. Bali Blue Krishna is Aldo's name for our single-origin Bali Blue Moon — organic coffee grown by the Subak Abian farming cooperative on the volcanic slopes of Bali. If you've been searching for Bali Blue Moon coffee, this is it, roasted darker than most versions you'll find.

Is this a low-acid coffee?

Yes. Bali Blue Moon coffees are naturally smooth and low in acidity, and our French dark roast softens the acidity even further. It's a good choice if brighter coffees feel harsh to you.

What does it taste like?

Deep chocolate, vanilla sweetness, and molasses richness, with a smooth, full body and a hint of almond in the aftertaste.

What is wet-hulled (Giling Basah) coffee?

Wet-hulling is the traditional Indonesian processing method used for this coffee. The beans are hulled while still holding more moisture than washed coffees, which develops the heavy body and smooth, earthy-sweet character Indonesian coffees are known for.

What's the best way to brew it?

It shines in a French press — try a 1:18 coffee-to-water ratio with water around 190°F and a 4-minute steep — and it also makes a rich base for stovetop or machine espresso. Choose the grind for your brew method at checkout, or see our coffee grind size guide if you're not sure which to pick. Its heavy, syrupy body also makes an outstanding cold brew — see our guide to the best coffee for cold brew.

How is it different from your Sumatra or Earthy & Seductive?

Our Sumatra Mandeling is the earthier Indonesian cup; Bali Blue Krishna is smoother and sweeter, leaning chocolate and molasses. Earthy & Seductive is a blend that uses naturally processed Bali Kintamani as one of its components — Bali Blue Krishna is a wet-hulled, single-origin Bali on its own.

Is it USDA Organic?

Yes. Bali Blue Krishna is USDA Organic, certified through NFC, our accredited organic certifying agent.

When was my coffee roasted?

Every bag is stamped with its roast batch, so you know exactly when it was roasted. We roast in small batches, in-house, in Greenport.

About the Farm

Grown on the lush volcanic slopes of Bali, this coffee comes from small family farms that are part of a traditional farming collective called Subak Abian. This unique organization blends sustainable agriculture with Balinese spiritual values, overseeing everything from growing practices to community well-being. Thanks to a government-led revival in the 1970s and ’80s, farmers began cultivating high-quality Bourbon and Typica varietals under the shade of tangerine, orange, and native trees. After harvest, the coffee is processed using the traditional Indonesian wet-hulled method, known locally as Giling Basah — the signature process behind the heavy body and smooth, low-acid character of Bali Blue Moon coffees. The result is a smooth, vibrant coffee rooted in heritage and produced with purpose.

Why 100% Arabica Matters

Not all coffee beans are created equal. At Aldo’s, we roast 100% Arabica beans, the world’s most prized coffee variety, known for smoother flavor, better balance, and natural complexity. Arabica beans deliver rich notes of chocolate, caramel, and subtle sweetness without the harsh bitterness often found in mass-market coffee, which frequently blends in lower-grade beans to cut costs. By using only 100% Arabica and roasting in small batches, we ensure every cup tastes cleaner, richer, and more enjoyable—whether you drink it black or with milk.

Why Choose ORGANIC Beans?

At Aldo’s, every coffee we roast now carries the USDA Organic certification, guaranteeing that our beans are grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or toxic chemicals. We partner exclusively with small family farms that rely on natural cultivation methods, nutrient-rich soil, and time-honored growing practices that protect both the land and the people who farm it. These organic standards aren’t just better for the environment—they create cleaner, richer, and more complex flavors in every cup. By choosing Aldo’s, you’re supporting sustainable agriculture, fair labor, and a healthier planet, all while enjoying coffee crafted with uncompromising care.

Satisfaction Guaranteed

We want your experience with Aldo’s Coffee to be completely risk-free. That’s why we offer a hassle-free satisfaction guarantee for all customers. If you’re not fully satisfied with your bag of coffee or biscotti, just email us at info@aldoscoffee.com and we’ll either refund your purchase or send you a replacement of your choice—no questions asked, no return required. It’s our way of showing how confident we are in the quality, freshness, and craftsmanship of every product we roast and bake. You have nothing to lose—just exceptional coffee to gain.

Aldo's has the absolute best coffee! Josh, the face of the new ownership is an outstanding young man. He and his team have really carried on the tradition of Aldo and made several upgrades and improvements. I have had coffee from around the world. The dark roast coffees at Aldo's are as good as it gets and the price is right. The scones and biscotti are also delicious.

I was introduced to Aldo's Coffee about a year ago and was so impressed with their roasted beans that I began to order coffee from their website! Recently we returned to Southold for a mini vacation and i had the pleasure of stocking up with my favorite roasts!

Absolutely amazing spot --- the real deal. Expert roasted coffee by Ray, the in house roaster. While Aldo's has been a legend for years, the new ownership respects tradition and has this place sparkling. Gluten free biscotti is actually crunchy and the team are friendly and exactly why you go to an independent coffee spot. Perfection!

I love dark roasted coffee, and I haven’t found anything else quite like Aldo’s. About as bold and rich as you can get without being burnt and still has a lot of unique character. Something that’s almost impossible to do with mass produced coffee typically found in coffee shops. I order their beans for my home espresso maker.

If you think decaf coffee can’t be bold, Aldo’s will prove you wrong in the first sip. What really sets it apart is the unmistakable freshness of Aldo’s roast. You can taste that the beans were handled with the same care they give to their signature blend. This isn’t just a “good decaf” it’s a great coffee, period.

Customers praised this dark roast single-origin USDA organic coffee as "delicious" with "bold and robust flavor," highlighting its exceptional freshness and smooth, low-acidity profile. Most loved the rich taste and quality beans. However, some found it too dark-roasted, with concerns about oiliness and lacking expected earthy notes.

A bit too dark roasted. Overwhelms flavor.

Hi there, thank you for your feedback. We're sorry the dark roast was too overwhelming. We do offer some medium roasts that may be more what you are looking for. We also offer a full satisfaction guarantee.

It was as usual on time and carefully packed. Besides having amazing access to what I think is the freshest coffee beans around your packaging is superb both in looks and materials used to pack. I've tried other coffee to save money but some things like my morning coffee both regular and decaf are the best in the market. Many thanks for being there.

I have been ordering from Aldo’s for the past 2 years. Their beans are always fresh, and the coffee is the best I have ever tasted. My wife prefers a French press experience, while I prefer the satisfaction of a pour over. Either way you brew it, Aldo’s always starts your day off right!

Unusual interplay of robust warm, gourmet notes with an ever so slight sour note that differentiates this blend from many others. It is one of my top choices, not only from Aldo’s but from most other roasters as well. Love making this in the morning. ♥️

Gave it as a gift

T
Timothy Burke (United States)

I didn’t care for the oiliness of the beans. From what I’ve learned, that comes from roasting the bean at way too high a temperature. coffee beans should be slow roasted.

Hi Timothy,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback — I really appreciate it.

With our darker roasts like Bali Blue, a light sheen of oil on the surface is completely natural. When coffee reaches the second crack during roasting, the internal structure expands and naturally brings some of the bean’s lipids to the surface. That oil actually plays a role in the heavy body and smooth mouthfeel that darker roasts are known for.

That said, taste is personal — and if this profile wasn’t what you were looking for, that matters.

We stand behind everything we roast. If you’re not fully satisfied, I’d be happy to replace it with a different coffee that better suits your preference, or issue a full refund — whichever you prefer.

Just let me know what feels right, and we’ll take care of it.

Cheers,
Josh

Coffee is okay, however I was not able to find a roasting date on the bag.

Appreciate you pointing that out — and glad you gave it a try.

We roast in small batches (25 lbs at a time), and orders usually head out within a day or two so nothing sits around. Each bag has a batch code stamped on the bottom that ties back to the roast date on our end.

If you want the exact roast date for yours, shoot us a note at info@aldoscoffee.com with the code and I’ll personally look it up for you.

Thanks again for the honest feedback — it helps.
